Skalisko na Volovci
Author: Erik Leng

A tip for a magically snowy trip

Skalisko (1293 m above sea level) on Volovec never disappoints!

It provides the most beautiful and valuable views in Slovakia. The plains of the Slovak Karst can be seen in the palm of your hand, in good weather Kojšovská Hola, Spiš Castle, the Tatras, but also the Polish Beskydy Mountains in the north, or the Hungarian Mátra in the south.

DID YOU KNOW THAT...
- during World War II, Skalisko was the highest peak in Hungary
they also called it Baračka, from the Hungarian Barátkö, which means Friendly Stone
- The longest tourist route in Slovakia leads through Skalis - the Cesta hrdinov SNP
- below the peak is the highest mountain hut in the region
- during the hike from Betliar, you will overcome over 1000 altitude meters and 12 km
- from the mining village of Čučma it is "only" 8 km along the green tourist route
