From Čučma to Volovec

The route to the top of Skaliska leads from the end of the village Čučma. A green tourist sign will accompany you throughout the trip. Pleasant hiking with alternating climbs through deciduous forests later turns into a route with an alpine touch. Before the ascent to the Skalisko hill, there is an intermediate stop at the Volovec cottage. This cottage is open 24 hours a day during the summer months. In winter it is only open on weekends. At the cottage there is a large gazebo, which has come to many a group of tourists. The last climb from the cottage to the top is steeper. The path is intertwined with various root systems of trees and rocks. After the ascent you will reach a smaller hill where you will see the Skalisko tourist board. Skaliska hill is formed by a limestone tangle of stones. After climbing them, you have definitely reached the top, which reaches a height of 1293 m above sea level. You will have a unique circular view from there, which is one of the most beautiful in Slovakia. In good weather you will see the High Tatras, Kráľová hoľa, Spišský hrad, Levočské vrchy or even Revúcka vrchovina. On the way, in addition to the mentioned cottage, you will find various rest areas in the form of wooden seating. The route to Skalisko takes about three hours with a route length of about eight kilometers.

Our tip:

In the village of Čučma there is the Nature Trail on Železná cesta, which will take you through the history of mining and metallurgy in the region.

Hiking trails lead from different directions to the top of Skalisko. These are, for example, the sidewalk from Betliar following the yellow tourist sign, the sidewalk from Úhornianske sedlo following the red tourist sign and the sidewalk from the Súľová saddle also following the red tourist sign. The red tourist sign that leads to the top is called the SNP Heroes' Road. It is the longest tourist route in Slovakia.
