Rimavská Sobota Observatory

You can find the observatory on the southwestern edge of the city, in the local part of Tomašová. Its main subject is popularization, education and methodical activity. Professional observations are primarily focused on observing solar activity. It also focuses on the issue of light pollution. The uniqueness of the observatory is the astropark with a small arboretum, a pond, elements of garden architecture (UFO fireplace, pergola, garden fireplace, benches, swings) and the possibility of tourist accommodation.

In the astropark you will find models of asteroids, a sundial, an interactive globe, a small and a large solar oven, a solar house with a car track, a carillon, a solar dryer, a model of the Solar System with proportional sizes of the planets, a small rocket and an astronaut, information boards about light pollution and much more . Astropark is not only a place for relaxation and education, but also a monument to the enthusiasm, dedication and creativity of the people who wanted to make your stay here pleasant.

Observations of the starry sky, the moon, planets, constellations and other interesting objects through a telescope take place every Friday evening in clear weather. In the winter between 18.30 and 21.00, in the summer an hour later.
