Romanesque-Gothic church in Kyjatice

The church in Kyjatice abounds with fresco decoration from the turn of the 14th and 15th centuries, which was discovered under newer layers in 1894, but was painted over again. It was not until the eighties of the 20th century that the fresco paintings were uncovered and restored.

On the frescoes in the presbytery from the end of the 14th century, apostles, saints and prophets are depicted in medallions, on the triumphal arch there are scenes from the life of Jesus Christ: Judas´kiss, Christ before Pilate, Carrying the Cross, Crucifixion and Lamentation of Christ.

The decoration of the ship is dominated by a unique depiction of the Last Judgment in the form of a large circle, in the center with Jesus in a mandrol. In the fresco, Jesus judges the living and the dead, rising from the graves, and divides them into the righteous and the condemned.

In addition to the frescoes, Gothic style is also represented in the church by the southern Late Gothic portal and the simple portal to the sacristy. The stone baptistery probably dates back to the 13th century

The altar, the pulpit and the wooden coffered ceiling of the church date back to the 17th century.
