Tornaľa

Tornaľa (formerly Šafárikovo) is a town located in the south of the Revúca district, with a population of 7177. Among the rarest historical monuments in the town are the Calvinist church, which is almost 500 years old, the Catholic church built in 1931 and the Evangelical church built in 1933. the city park Zoltánka is also worth a visit, the history of which is rich and goes back to the 13th century. During the ownership of the Tornally family, the park was transformed into an English garden full of rare exotic trees. The most remarkable are two 350-year-old plane trees. There is a beach swimming pool on the outskirts of the city, which covers an area of almost 2 hectares. The artificially created water surface is filled with water from the sea eye. The eye of the sea is a unique natural phenomenon of an artesian groundwater well that created a natural crater with a diameter of 60 meters, under which there is a 38-meter deep flooded chasm. Towards the bottom, the chasm widens and creates a 33x55 meter space at the bottom. On the edge of the area of the beach swimming pool and near the city park, there are springs of mineral water, popularly called Šťavica. At one of them, the well-known Gemerka bottled mineral water is also filled.
