Viticulture in Gemer region
You will definitely know wines from Modra, Pezinok or Tokaj. How about tasting something else? Viticulture has a deep tradition in Gemer.
For example, it was produced in the Valická valley in the second half of the 19th century. Today, Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, Yellow Nutmeg, Riesling, Riesling, Veltlin Green, Lipovina, Pálava, Noria, from the red varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Frankovka and Rimava are grown on 24 hectares.
If you like currant wine, you will also enjoy Gemeri. In Padarovce near Rimavská Sobota, they specialize in the production of blackcurrant wines. The first mention of wine production in the village dates back to 1866. However, the tradition has disappeared over time. Today, with an honest craft, they try to restore pride to the region and spread a good reputation throughout Slovakia.
They do not use any concentrates, they only process the raw material they grow in their own orchards. They cover an area of eight hectares, with an average of 5,000 kg of blackcurrants per hectare. The quality and taste are also influenced by the favorable location of the orchards near the Teplý Vrch reservoir, which has one of the most favorable climates in Slovakia.
Gemer wines from Valice and Padarovce are holders of the Gemer-Malohont Regional Product brand.
